With the markets having gone on the rip-your-face-off rally we predicted back on August 5, we're now getting very close to a near-term top across the board. Sometime this week, we're likely to see a sharp and short-lived pull-back in the NASDAQ-100 (QQQ), the S&P 500 (SPY), Nvidia (NVDA), Apple (AAPL) and the rest.

So here’s the question… thoughts on buying before earnings? or is that more of a hit or miss?
You always roll the dice with earnings. There are far far too many variables at play when earnings hits. NVDA has been on a roll with earnings. But eventually it’s going to report something the market isn’t going to like and it’s going to roll over. As I mentioned in my post yesterday, earnings is typically a short-term impact. The market will get over whatever issues come out on earnings within a few weeks. So long as the earnings report isn’t fundamentally shifting. In most cases, they’re not. A slight miss or a slight beat on revenues or a slight miss on margins doesn’t have a lasting impact on the stock. But it could have an impact near-term. And if you’re trading for the near-term, you’re kinda rolling the dice.
If the plan is to simply buy long-term, then that’s totally fine. Though I do think NVDA at $125-$130 is a little on the rich side for an entry. Obviously the low $100’s is better.
But even that is relative on a time basis. Next year, $130 may very well be an extreme low entry.
I do appreciate your input
